Accident black spot gets funding

Wednesday, 01 February 2012

An area well known for having the potential for a number of car accidents has received funding in a bid to allow the local council to make it safer for those driving there.

Gornal, in the West Midlands, has seen pleas for changes to the roads from worried residents and drivers, thanks to a spate of accidents leading to injuries and car insurance claims in the area.

The £50,000 it has been awarded will be spent on warning signs, resurfacing roads, and adding skid-proof surfaces to reduce the risk of accidents in the area.

Councillor David Stanley told the Express and Star: "This is short-term disruption for long-term gain. The road surface is worn out and would have needed resurfacing sometime."

Earlier this week, it was announced by the Department for Transport that local authorities will now be able to tell residents about road works by any means they see fit to best target those who need to know.
