Car insurance holders advised to take adequate breaks
Friday, 20 August 2010
Car insurance customers embarking on long journeys are being advised to ensure they take regular breaks from driving.
It is important to ensure motor insurance holders take a break of at least 15 minutes every couple of hours and they are adequately rested before driving.
If car insurance holders do feel tired while driving, it is important to see the warning signs and take a break, advises road safety charity Brake.
The best thing to drink is a high-caffeine beverage during a rest, for example two cups of coffee or an energy drink, then take a short nap afterwards, according to the charity.
However, Brake, which campaigns to reduce the number of deaths on roads around the world, says caffeine is no substitute for a proper rest if the driver is extremely tired.
"Thinking that we can fight off sleep, especially using unproven methods like opening the window, is a mistake that could cost your life, or someone else’s," said Ellen Booth, campaign officer for Brake.
