Travel insurance holders 'will not face BAA strikes'

Thursday, 19 August 2010

Travel insurance policyholders will not face chaos at the UK's airports as BAA strike action has been averted.

A pay row at BAA sparked the threat of industrial action, which would have affected travel insurance customers flying from airports including Heathrow, Edinburgh and Stansted.

The dispute was over a one per cent pay rise being granted to BAA staff, as well as changes to their working conditions, which was set to lead to staff walking out over the August bank holiday weekend.

Around 2,500 flights would have been affected, causing misery to outgoing travel insurance holders if the strike had gone ahead.

A deal has been reached and details of it are due to be announced today (August 17th).
The Unite union said it had accepted a "much improved" pay offer.

At the moment, British Airways' staff have no further plans to engage in industrial action, which could have affected travel insurance holders over the busy holiday period.
