Bacon Britain's number one food?

Thursday, 02 August 2012

Bacon has emerged as Britain's number one food in a The Food Network survey.

The meat, which many home insurance holders will fry in their homes every week, was joined by the likes of bread, apples and bananas in a somewhat eclectic top ten.

The Food Network has ranked the most loved food in Britain following a study of 2,000 people who were presented with a range of 150 foods from which to pick a favourite.

Chicken made it to number two, chocolate was at three and steak and beef also appeared in a meat-heavy top five.

"Whether it’s a home-made bacon buttie or a traditional fry-up in a greasy spoon, bacon gets us Brits started for the day," said chef Andy Bates of Food Network UK.

One potential surprise in the study was that controversial Christmas offering Brussels sprouts made it to number 71 – yet the likes of ketchup, honey and popcorn were further down the list – with sweets only one place above Brussels!

Perhaps parents will be rolling out that statistic come Christmas day?!
