Car insurance customers will find it much easier to travel across Britain this Bank Holiday, as the Highways Agency has announced it is suspending road works across the country.

Roughly 74 miles of works will be completed this week and a further 33 miles will be suspended between Friday 27th and May 31th, meaning that extra capacity will be provided for Bank Holiday traffic.

Roads minister Mike Penning said: "More than 98 per cent of the strategic road network will be clear of road works, meaning more lanes will be open and many speed restrictions lifted".

Live traffic information will be provided to motorists via the internet, electronic road signs as well as local and national radio bulletins. Also, data will be displayed on the agency's Twitter site.

As well as this, the minister highlighted that if anyone has an accident that could lead to a car insurance claim, Highways Agency officers will be available for expert assistance.
