Car insurance: Bank holiday drivers urged to be safe

Monday, 14 August 2006

The forthcoming August bank holiday is likely to lead to extra congestion and more hazardous driving conditions and therefore motorists are being warned to take extra care.

Driving safety specialist Peak Performance is hoping that a new campaign will encourage drivers to take fewer risks on UK roads and hopefully reduce the number of accidents over busy bank holiday weekends.

The company has identified five different types of driver who often struggle with unusual road conditions – the lone driver, the tireless driver, the company car driver, the leisure driver and the 'please yourself' driver.

However, a few steps can help to reduce overall stress over the holiday period and lower the chances of being forced to claim on car insurance policies.

Forward planning such as checking a vehicle's condition before leaving home or double-checking the correct route can make a significant difference. Motorists are also encouraged to take regular breaks and ensure that fellow passengers are suitably entertained in order to reduce pressure on the driver.
