Bathrooms are a sanctuary, says expert

Sunday, 08 July 2012

It's a lovely idea – and certainly one which ties-in with many people's desire for an unwinding hot bath just before bed: dk interiors' Debra Kacher has said that currently bathrooms represent "a place of sanctuary".

The rooms – which some home insurance holders may well still associate with the functional activity of washing – are "a room to escape from the rest of the household, a room to unwind and relax," she said.

It is primarily because of this, she said, that there's been an increase in the importance of the rooms' design when it comes to the refurbishments that customers are after.

She also spoke about how customers' wider experiences have given them bathroom inspiration – specifically their trips to spas and travel activities. These have made people desire bathrooms with extra luxuriousness, she said.

Tiling represents a simple method of altering how a bathroom looks, said Essential Kitchen Bathroom Bedrooms magazine's Tanya Macpherson earlier this year. She also recommended it for injecting colour and interest.
