The damage inflicted on vehicles by British drivers undertaking reversing manoeuvres is amounting to more than £400 million of repair costs for
car insurance holders.
Accident Exchange's new research has shown that the £409 million is a result of the manoeuvres, with almost 200,000 accidents of this type occurring annually.
This equates to 500 such incidents taking place every day, setting back drivers with an average bill of £2,123.
Commenting on the issue, Lee Woodley from Accident Exchange said: "Despite the proliferation of technology such as parking sensors and reverse cameras, drivers are not taking enough care to accurately check their surroundings."
The group explained that the events often happen when the driver of one vehicle collides with a stationary vehicle.
As well as this, the organisation stated that the incidents usually take place in a car park or while drivers are reversing out of a driveway or narrow side road.
