Travel insurance: Head to Blackpool for bargains

Wednesday, 28 January 2009

Those looking for budget options during the credit crunch may want to head for Blackpool after it was highlighted as a bargain holiday destination.

According to research by TripAdvisor, the northern location is one of the UK's best when it comes to getting away on the cheap, with two of its hotels taking the second and third spot in the best UK bargains chart.

It was also ranked 87th in the world for a credit-crunching destination, the study showed.

"When it comes to finding a true bargain, Britain's seaside towns have far more to offer the discerning traveller than great fish and chips," said TripAdvisor spokesperson Luke Fredberg.

"You may not be guaranteed good weather, but you will get good value."

However, the research also tried to find out what hotels were the dirtiest in Britain. The Cromwell Crown in London was decided as the grimiest of the lot, followed by the Corbigoe - also in the capital - and Oxford's Nanford Guest House.

Holidaymakers who find they have problems during their getaway might want to check they have comprehensive travel insurance before departure, as this could minimise the amount needing to be paid out in an emergency.
