Car insurance: BMW named greenest manufacturer

Motorists looking for cheap car insurance quotes and wanting to do their bit to help the planet may want to consider buying a BMW.

The German marque has been given the Greenest Manufacturer of the Year Award by

BMW Group was recognised with the accolade for its work on lowering car emissions in the past year while still offering a great drive.

"I'm delighted to receive this award which represents further acknowledgement of BMW Group's class-leading advances in this sector, which is helping to reduce costs for businesses and company car users," commented Stephen Chater, corporate operations manager for BMW UK.

Further eco-friendly initiatives from BMW will be forthcoming this year, including a new BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Saloon, which will have emissions of 106g of carbon dioxide per kilometre.

BMW's EfficientDynamics technologies include Auto Start-Stop, Brake Energy Regeneration, Reduced Resistance and Active Aerodynamics.

The manufacturer is also developing ActiveHybrid, which combines the strengths of electric motors with the efficiencies of petrol engines.
