Travel insurance: 'Life's a beach' for UK holidaymakers

Monday, 09 October 2006

One in ten British holidaymakers take four or five vacations each, according to new research, and beach holidays are the pick of the crop.

The UK holiday spend reached £97.3 million in 2006 and the majority of people are now taking between one and three holidays every year. The most popular destinations are France, Greece, USA and Spain but the over-65s favour breaks in the UK and Ireland.

Nick Kidd, of the insurance firm who commissioned the report, said: "With so much being spent on holidays and travelling abroad, it is now more important than ever to have travel insurance. However, in the excitement of booking a trip many people forget to buy their cover or wrongly assume that they don't need it."

He reminds holidaymakers that getting a cheap travel insurance quote online is as important as remembering your toothbrush and passport on holiday.

Beach holidays are still the most popular, with holiday camps and cruising remaining the preserve of a minority of UK tourists.
