Car insurance: Hiring cars is 'cheapest' in Britain

Thursday, 28 September 2006

Hiring a car in the UK is surprisingly far cheaper than in Spain says a new report.

Alternatively when welcoming friends from abroad, they can now benefit from the UK's cheap car hire costs to explore the terrain

Mintel, a market research company, found that weekly car hire in Britain works out at an average of £24 per day. This is compared to an average £33 per day over the same one week period in Spain.

Greg Turley, who commissioned the research, said: "This report highlights the enormous imbalance and variations in the way the top car hire operators are pricing car hire."

He added that the report reinforced the importance of shopping around for car hire and not just being "ripped off by certain operators in Spain".

Although France is cheaper than the UK in terms of buying a car, the research found that one-day car hire cost a massive £78 there.

Italy and the US fared better, with holidays roving those countries or the UK in a hired vehicle made even cheaper by getting a low cost car insurance quote online.
