Car insurance: Half of British motorists 'would not pass driving test'
Wednesday, 07 June 2006
Millions of British motorists rate their driving as abysmal, claiming they would not pass a driving test if they took it again.
Only half of those quizzed in a recent driving survey believed they could pass the newer style driving test, with many thinking they would slip up on the new questions and general knowledge about the car.
For the last three years, new drivers have to answer two questions about the practical side of the car – from tyre pressure to dipsticks – and getting one wrong counts as one of 15 faults allowed before you fail.
Women drivers are reportedly much worse at these kinds of maintenance questions, the survey found, as only half as many women got them right compared to the men.
Motorists are urged to make sure they regularly check their car's engines and acquaint themselves with the workings of their cars.
To save on car insurance, motorists can also take an advanced driver course, which re-tests key skills and will slash car insurance premiums if passed.
