Car insurance: Britain is dear for motorists
Friday, 03 November 2006
It is official… Britain is one of the most expensive places to drive a car in Europe according to new reports.
Prudential, the annuity provider, has found that motorists pay 15 per cent more to drive their vehicles in the UK compared to other European destinations such as Spain, Germany and Italy.
The average Brit spends £485 on their car every month despite Prudential finding that most drivers were under the impression that they only spend a quarter of this amount.
Phillip Southgate from Prudential said: " We Brits love our cars and every time we make a journey, we unknowingly add a little more to the monthly cost: fuel, parking, mileage and even penalties."
He added that we know how much cheap car insurance costs every month but other hidden costs for knocked wing mirrors or parking changes all mount up.
Road tax in Britain is also much higher than many other countries according to the firm.
