British Gas is to offer electric charging services to Mitsubishi Motors customers who need to charge up their electric cars.

The move will see the energy supplier provide customers with their own circuit from £375, which will help them to lower the usage of their home electrical supply.

As a separate option, a wall-mounted charging solution, which cuts the amount of time it takes to power up a vehicle by a third, will cost car insurance holders £799.

Some customers may qualify for a free Chargemaster Homecharge unit, which would help to offset other motoring costs.

Dan Taylor, director of new ventures at British Gas, said that electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids are becoming more popular among road users because they help to reduce expenses while preserving the environment

Mitsubishi is hoping that the technology will be preferred by drivers in the coming years, as it aims for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to represent 20 per cent of its sales by 2020.

British Gas already charges electric vehicles for Nissan, Renault, Hitachi, Capital Vehicle Solutions, Toyota and Vauxhall.
