Travel insurance: British seaside 'much more popular this year'

Tuesday, 14 July 2009

Travel insurance is likely to be required for a British seaside break - a type of holiday gaining popularity this year, according to an expert.

Elliott Frisby is a spokesperson for VisitBritain and said hot weather predictions are one of the things that sway people towards a UK bucket and spade holiday.

Regeneration at certain locations has caused them to attract more holidaymakers this year, although the range and variation between locations is an appealing factor, he added.

"You have the sandy sandcastle beaches of Bournemouth and Blackpool and you have more pebbly ones - which are almost city destinations - like Brighton."

Mr Frisby said the nostalgic aspect of the seaside also helps it to welcome more visitors who want to share time with friends and family.

Outdoor activities and sports also tempt people to such destinations, he concluded, naming Blackpool as one of the most popular. Scarborough is also a much-loved seaside resort.
