Almost one in five British holidaymakers will be taking care to check exactly what their travel insurance policy does and does not cover. Some seven per cent will be spending more money to get a better travel insurance policy, according to research from Gocompare.com. The impact of the eruption of Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull and the industrial action taken by British Airways cabin crew has led people to double check the cover of their travel insurance policy. About 90 per cent of Brits will take out a travel insurance policy before going abroad this summer, and six in ten are likely to use a price comparison site to find a suitable one. Mark Greening, head of partnership products at Gocompare.com, said: "Many travellers caught up in the ash cloud chaos earlier this year expected their travel insurance policy to pay out for the additional costs they had to meet, but lots of people had to foot these extra bills themselves." Recently, tour operator Thomson revealed that more than a third of travel insurance policyholders do not use 25 per cent of the things they take away with them on holiday.
