Motor insurance: Brits 'going around the world'

Friday, 04 April 2008

UK motorists are likely travel around the world about 20 times in their lifetimes, new research from Confused.com has said.

In total, drivers will clock up 507,000 miles in their vehicles from the age of 17 to 75, including 3,442 miles on a weekly basis just travelling to work, it stated.

A twice-weekly visit to the supermarket, Confused.com added, could mean that 473 miles via these trips are expended yearly.

Managing director at the body Debra Williams observed that the survey proves people have to rely on their cars but that car insurance premiums get cheaper the further they travel.

She noted: "We all have to get from A to B but it's amazing to see how many miles we clock up in our lifetimes. The survey shows just how much we all rely on our cars for transport and demonstrates how integral cars have become in our day to day lives."

Closer to home, new safety measures could be introduced in Newton Solney in Staffordshire after locals met with council officials to discuss an accident blackspot.
