Car insurance: Britons 'scared' of driving overseas

Tuesday, 01 August 2006

Nearly two thirds of Britons feel scared about driving overseas, according to new research by a leading car insurer.

The main worries Brits have about foreign driving are the differences with driving on the other side of the road, dealing with roundabouts and unfamiliar roads, claims the study.

It was also discovered that three in five drivers in Britain did not know what kind of car insurance they have when they go abroad, with many thinking that the level of cover they have in the UK remains the same when they go away.

However, the cheap car insurance that you could get in the UK might not be applicable elsewhere.

Phil Southgate, media relations manager with the firm behind the study, commented: "Should they be involved in an accident some drivers may otherwise find themselves at a loss with only third party insurance despite having fire and theft or even fully comprehensive cover in the UK.

"We urge drivers to speak to their insurers so that they can set off to foreign climes with peace of mind."

Most companies will now allow customers to get a quick insurance quote online for foreign car insurance.
