Travel insurance: Brits 'not cutting down on holidays'

Thursday, 06 August 2009

The number of Brits searching online for cheap travel insurance so they can hop on a plane and head to sunnier climes may not have been too badly affected by the recession, if the comments of one industry expert are anything to go by.

According to, many individuals will enjoy the same number of getaways this year as they did in 2008.

Spokesman Bob Atkinson stated: "Whilst we know that unemployment figures are still rising, there are still a significant amount of people out there who are able to continue as normal."

He added most of these individuals are not cutting back on holidays, although he acknowledged they may try and be "more savvy" when it comes to how much they spend.

People who know where to buy cheap travel insurance but are keen to find out which destinations will prove the least expensive this year may want to consider a long-haul trip or a break in Spain or Greece.

Mr Atkinson claimed there are getaways available to these places at prices "never really seen before".

This comes after the Association of Independent Tour Operators claimed the recession has had little effect on the holiday plans of British travellers.
