Car insurance: Brits want royal car service
Friday, 27 November 2009
Drivers may search out the cheapest car insurance quotes, but when it comes to servicing their vehicles they want the cream of the crop.
Motorists would prefer the Queen to stop and help them in the event of a breakdown than either of the main political leaders, a poll for the Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme reveals.
HRH Queen Elizabeth II would be the mechanic of choice for 16 per cent of drivers, with 13 per cent wanting David Cameron to lend a hand and nine per cent preferring Gordon Brown to come to their rescue.
During the Second World War, the Queen trained to become a fully qualified mechanic, but drivers are unlikely to find such a prestigious person in overalls at their local garage.
"With today's modern, high-tech cars, finding an automotive technician you know you can rely on can be a real challenge," said Nigel Beaven, ATA spokesperson.
The ATA scheme recognises competent technicians through assessments, allowing drivers to have confidence that their car will be in safe, if not royal, hands.
