Travel insurance: Brits need reminding about specialist cover

Wednesday, 13 December 2006

People in the UK are clued up on travel insurance in general but sometimes aren't as knowledgeable about specialist cover.

One insurance company has said that Brits often need reminding about the importance of taking out specialist cover for activities such as skiing.

Svenja Taylor, a spokesperson for the firm, said: "You have to make sure that you are covered for all the sports you are undertaking.

"In general you must pay a little extra for sports cover, for example if you go rafting or rowing or skiing."

She added that the cover limits are the most important thing to compare when shopping online for cheap travel insurance and that when travelling to America, treatment costs can be crippling so check you are adequately covered.

Figures released by another travel insurance firm show that 47 per cent of tourists are driven by price alone when shopping for travel insurance.
