Car insurance: Brits 'still spending money on their motors'

Although motorists may still be able to find budget car insurance online, most vehicle owners have seen their running costs increase over the past year, it has been revealed.

Research by swiftcover.com found 69 per cent of drivers have noticed their outgoings have risen during the last 12 months.

However, while sales of new autos are down 21.5 per cent on this time last year, the number of people buying personalised registrations has remained relatively stable - with a fall of four per cent.

Marketing manager at swiftcover.com Tina Shortle claimed this reflects the fact Brits are a nation of car lovers and, although many people cannot afford to update their vehicles, they still want to have fun behind the wheel.

She stated: "For many drivers, personalised registrations add to the enjoyment of motoring."

The survey also found 28 per cent of people would give up going to the pub before they sacrificed their set of wheels.

Meanwhile, drivers keen to cut their outgoings may find some of the best deals on cheap car insurance are available via the internet.
