Burglar warns students over thefts

Thursday, 12 January 2012

A convicted burglar who spent four years in prison for stealing other people's possessions has warned students to look after their gadgets when they return to university for the new semester, branding them "ridiculously easy targets."

Home burglaries can be traumatising, leaving a person feeling violated, without their own possessions, and needing to make home insurance claims to cover them, but Peter Findlay says much can be done to stop them.

The burglar says that students are easy to burgle because they tend to have less secure doors and windows.

Police in Yorkshire have warned homeowners to keep all doors locked, even when home, and to make sure their home is secure as possible.

Chief superintendent Simon Willsher said: "Some simple steps to keep expensive items out of sight and prevent easy access to your home will deter criminals."

Recently, Police in Wales offered similar advice, after 11 homes were broken into over December alone.
