Car insurance: Local residents call for greater road safety

Monday, 21 July 2008

Car insurance customers in Burton may be pleased to hear that local residents are calling for improved road safety features in the area.

The Burton Mail has reported that more than 200 people living on Atherstone Raod in Measham and Donisthorpe Lane in Moira have put their signatures to petitions in favour of such a move.

It could be that any changes have a beneficial effect on car insurance policies in the area, as cover firms could choose to increase costs as a result.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, outlined what needs to be done in the region.

"We at least need signs reminding drivers of the 30mph speed limit because there have been so many accidents and near-misses," said the resident.

Department for Transport figures show that some 2,943 people in the UK were killed on British roads in 2007.
