Increasing numbers of
car insurance customers are purchasing vehicles online without seeing them beforehand.
More than a third of people who buy motors at Autoquake.com agree the deal without taking the car out for a test drive or inspecting it for faults or marks.
Motor vehicles are now the second highest big-ticket item bought on the internet, behind houses, with more than 60 per cent of the website's customers reserving their car on the first day they visit the site.
Fredrik Skantze, founder of Autoquake.com, said the £7,500 consumers spend on average is a lot of money to part company with, particularly when they have not had the chance to physically examine the product.
"It shows the confidence that consumers now have with buying goods online. Buying a car online now, for many, feels like a very natural process," he added.
According to Glass' Guide, almost a third of car insurance policyholders say they find the choice of new models overwhelming when looking to buy.
