Motor insurance: Changes 'should be declared'

Monday, 08 October 2007

Motorists who make a number of changes to their vehicles have been warned to declare these to car insurers or risk facing an impact on their premiums.

This is according to Gocompare.com, which said that insures will not pay out for damages that have been incurred as part of modifications.

Managing director at Gocompare.com Hayley Parsons said that car insurance in most cases will not be provided for alterations that are made by those who want to express themselves in many ways, something the firm claimed is inspired by programmes such as Top Gear.

"Many drivers do not realise that any changes you make need to be declared to your insurer. If you don't, you won't be insured for the upgrades you've made and the value of the car will be based on the factory-standard fittings," she commented.

In other car insurance news, Insurancewide.com recently stated that premiums have decreased on average by 9.5 per cent in the third quarter of the year.
