Car insurance: Top car crime locations revealed

Motorists in Chislehurst are three times more likely to make a claim on their car insurance for theft compared to the UK average, according to new research. analysed 3.8 million motor insurance quotes made by consumers on its website over the past year, revealing the top 20 locations where motorists were more likely to make a claim on their car insurance.

Wingate in Cleveland and Redbridge in Ilford came in second and third place, while Hatfield in Doncaster and Manchester city centre completed the top five.

Unsurprisingly, the research also revealed big cities are affected, with Sheffield, Bradford and Newport featuring in the top ten.

Other areas appearing as claim hotspots are Romford and Ilford, which feature in the top 20 postcodes three times each.

According to the Home Office, nearly 1.5 million vehicle-related thefts were recorded in 2007-08.

Steve Sweeney, head of motor insurance at said the research revealed a broad mix of places across the country are at risk.

He added: "This highlights the issue that no matter where you live, there is always a chance you could become a victim of theft and motorists should take this risk seriously
