Car insurance: 'Gadgets and gizmos could lead to more claims'
Friday, 10 October 2008
High tech gadgets in cars could be resulting in drivers being forced to make a claim on their motor insurance, the results of a new study have suggested.
A poll by used car website motors.co.uk found 70.6 per cent of motorists find the gizmos in their vehicle distracting.
Some 53 per cent said they would like to see fewer non-essential features to help avoid confusion.
Gadgets were considered to be bigger distractions than noisy passengers, pets and convoluted road signs.
Trying to operate a satnav was voted the biggest driving danger, with about 30 per cent of those questioned saying such systems were responsible for taking attention away from the road.
Marketing manager Katie Armitage said: "On the back of these findings we are urging manufacturers to go back to basics and to consider the safety of drivers."
A previous poll by motors.co.uk found the Honda Cog - reputedly the most costly car advert of all time - was the nation's favourite commercial.
