Car insurance customers who are searching for new vehicles seem to prioritise economy over style, a study has found.
Motorists are viewing style, size and colour as less important aspects of their new cars, and are instead gravitating towards the most economical vehicles, Carmony.co.uk has discovered.
The number of searches on the used car site for vehicles priced between £5,000 and £10,000 increased by 40 per cent in March when compared with the same month in 2010.
Searches for cars that attain a minimum of 40mpg also rose by 36 per cent over the same period.
In addition, it appears that people will need
motor insurance for diesel cars, as searches for petrol vehicles fell.
Neil Packman from the site said: "It's so important to understand how much it will cost to actually own a car and the more prepared a driver can be about the potential costs, the better."
Mr Packman also claimed that motorists are now becoming more savvy when it comes to assessing the running costs of vehicles.
