Car insurance holders in one area of the UK could be looking at paying more than £100 to take courses to avoid penalty points if they break driving laws.
The current fee for speed awareness courses increased to £75 in Staffordshire, rising from last year's £60 price, according to the Sentinel.
The newspaper reported that roughly 1,237 people take the courses each month, generating more than £92,000 in fees.
However, charges could rise to more than £100 as a method of helping to make cameras in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent self-financed in 2012.
Funding for the authority's cameras has dropped from a peak of over £1 million to £368,000 and may decrease this year, indicating that the council is raising the costs of the courses as a means of generating money and keeping the cameras switched on.
A representative of a community speedwatch campaign which operates in the Biddulph area, George Hunt, told the newspaper: "The cameras need to be active."
