Any British car insurance holders who currently drive a Mini are subject to a product recall, following recent safety concerns.

The BMW-owned brand is said to be recalling 235,000 Mini Coopers across the globe, after being alerted to an issue that could present a fire risk to owners.

This hazard concerns an electrical malfunction in a circuit board, potentially resulting in a failure in the vehicle's cooling system.

In total, 81 incidents of water pump failures and overheating have been recorded, leading to four fires.

BMW, Mini's parent company, said in a statement that the problem "can lead to a failure of the additional water pump or smoldering and even a fire cannot be excluded".

A representative for the manufacturer stated that motor insurance policyholders will soon be contacted in order for replacements to be arranged.

This process is expected to take roughly an hour and will cost nothing.
