As some regions of the UK experience below-zero temperatures and icy road conditions, Britons with car insurance have been warned to get their vehicles ready.

When the temperature falls lower than 7 degrees C, standard tyres on most new cars in the UK do not perform as effectively as those that designed to handle roads in winter.

Snow has already affected certain areas of the country, with temperatures forecast to decline further this February, meaning that now could be a better time than ever to look at investing in winter tyres.

However, a study from Europe's leading online tyre retailer Delticom has found that the majority of Britain's motor insurance holders are not aware of the benefits of installing the specialised tyres.

This is despite the finding that many car insurance holders in the same survey claimed that they believe staying mobile in winter conditions is very important.
