Car insurance: Odd items left in rental cars revealed

Friday, 01 August 2008

Motorists sometimes leave the strangest items behind in rental vehicles, car insurance customers may be intrigued to hear.

Lease service Europcar has cited a cooked sausage, a false leg and half a pint of beer with a speed seduction CD among the weirdest things found once cars have been brought back.

Such items are in stark contrast to paraphernalia the company claims are traditionally left, including keys, sunglasses, CDs and satellite navigation devices.

Catriona Lougher, speaking for Europcar, remarked that all sorts of people choose to rent vehicles.

"The size and variety of Europcar's fleet obviously attracts customers from all walks of life, judging by the bizarre objects staff find left in vehicles," she said.

Europcar recently set up a hotline for people involved in accidents in rental vehicles.

The First Call service offers a streamlined approach to making a car insurance claim in such an instance.
