Car insurance customers may find it challenging to travel around Britain's towns and cities this Friday, as thousands of street parties are set to take place to celebrate the royal wedding.

There have been roughly 5,500 road closure applications from organisers who want to commemorate the nuptials with their own gatherings, according to the Local Government Association.

London alone has received more than 800 requests to shut off roads, which will increase the disruption to car insurance customers that will be caused by the arrival of well-wishers anticipated for the ceremony.

Other areas that are set to celebrate the event include Hertfordshire, Surrey and Kent. A total of almost 700 parties are expected in these locations.

Councillor Chris White from the Local Government Association said: "Councils across the country have pulled out all the stops to make organising royal wedding street parties as easy as possible."

In addition, there could be extra issues for people looking to find a parking space, as there are likely to be many more street parties held in cul-de-sacs, where road closure permission is not needed.
