Car insurance: Roadshows 'will highlight importance of car maintenance'

Wednesday, 27 May 2009

Motorists who take the time to search for the cheap car insurance could be throwing away any savings made by skimping on basic maintenance, it has been suggested.

According to auto care company Comma, vehicle owners in the UK are risking having to shell out a total of £300 million each year on engine repairs because they allow their oil levels to drop dangerously low.

In order to highlight the problem, the company is running a number of roadshows across the country.

The tour will take place from June 15th to 19th to mark National Oil Check Week.

Venues being visited include the Trafford Centre in Manchester and Bluewater in Kent.

This comes after research by Comma found more than five million motorists never check their oil.

Vehicle owners who take good care of their autos and book them in for regular servicing may find their cars are less likely to develop the kind of serious mechanical fault that could lead to an accident.

As a result, people who keep on top of basic maintenance could also be helping to protect their motor insurance premiums.
