Car Insurance: 'Keep vehicle keys in your bedroom at night'

Thursday, 04 December 2008

Thames Valley police are warning motorists to keep car keys with them in the bedroom at night if they want to avoid a motor insurance claim.

This comes after a vehicle was stolen from a driveway in Aylesbury last week.

During the night, the thieves entered a house, found some car keys and then took a Mitsubishi Evo.

Aylesbury Vale crime reduction adviser Kama Wager said there were a number of steps people could take to reduce their chances of becoming a victim.

She advised residents to ensure they lock all doors, removing keys as they do so.

Ms Wager added it was best to secure downstairs windows as well - and only ever leave upstairs ones open if they cannot be accessed via a flat roof.

She stated people who did not want to end up making a car insurance claim should secure their vehicles and keep keys in the same room they go to sleep in at night.

In other news, schoolchildren in the Thames Valley area have been getting involved in a road safety campaign aimed at slowing down speeding drivers.
