Car insurance: Motorists should drive "slowly and carefully" in snow

Tuesday, 12 January 2010

Car insurance customers can reduce the risk of needing to claim on their car insurance by driving "slow and carefully", according to Greater Manchester Police.

Communities in the area have experienced some of their most treacherous weather in 20 years over the last week.

And with many of the UK's roads hit by heavy snow and ice, the situation in Greater Manchester is far from unique.

Assistant chief constable Gary Shewan warned drivers to leave plenty of time for their journey to reduce the risk of accidents.

He said: "The overriding concern must be one of safety and I would ask that anyone who uses either public transport or their own car is extremely careful."

Elsewhere, Devon and Cornwall Police recently issued a warning to motorists against leaving their cars running unattended while waiting for the windows to defrost after a rise in thefts.
