If car insurance customers want to avoid the London congestion charge, they may want to see a list of vehicle models that has been produced by Which?

From January 4th, any car which emits less than 100g/km of carbon and meets Euro 5 standards for air quality is exempt from the £10 charge.

Which? has now published a list of the top ten petrol and diesel cars which will not require motor insurance customers to pay the regulatory fee.

The Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion model is one of those that are excused from the charge, while others include the Toyota Prius, Audi A3 and the Toyota Auris hybrid model.

Ford's Focus1.6 TDCi Econetic DPF StartStop car is another vehicle that will not be included in the charge, as the manufacturer looks to build a strong reputation for energy-efficient cars.

Last month the government announced that certain plug-in electric and ultra CO2 cars would be eligible for a £5,000 discount on their original prices.
