Car insurance: Measures to combat rising cost of motoring announced
Wednesday, 10 September 2008
People who are finding it difficult to pay for car insurance, fuel and the other associated costs of driving may welcome plans by the government to help motorists drive more economically.
From today, those taking their practical driving test will be offered advice on saving fuel and cutting emissions.
Transport minister Jim Fitzpatrick is also organising a £3 million campaign to promote techniques that will help motorists reduce fuel bills.
He claimed following government recommendations could save motorists a month's worth of petrol or diesel a year.
Mr Fitzpatrick said simple steps could make all the difference.
"Common sense changes can make for major improvements," he stated.
Tips on economical driving are currently being aired on a variety of radio stations and a new television campaign will follow next year.
In addition to his role as transport minister, Mr Fitzpatrick is also the MP for Poplar and Canning Town in London.
