More travel insurance customers are deciding to holiday in countries which offer a good exchange rate against the pound, Travelex has claimed.Global marketing manager Julian Neal said people were now twice as likely to travel to America compared with previous years. He said although there was no evidence to show less people were heading to Europe, there had been a change. As well as increasing numbers of people buying US dollars, Mr Neal stated "we have also noticed increases in currencies where they are particularly favourable, like the Turkish lira and South African rand".Figures from the Post Office released in April revealed in the space of a year sterling had dropped in value by 17 per cent against the euro. However, sterling was up 19 per cent against the Jamaican dollar and 13 per cent against the Hong Kong dollar.Meanwhile, a poll from moneysupermarket.com found nearly a third of people were considering travelling outside Europe as a result of the poor exchange rate.Travel Insurance - Get Swiftcovered today!
