Travel Insurance: Check for delay and abandonment

Monday, 04 April 2011

Travel insurance policyholders should check the small print carefully if they plan to holiday in Spain this summer, according to one expert.

Following the threat of further Spanish air strikes in Easter and over the summer, travellers who bought their cover after March 9th cannot expect to be covered for delay and travel abandonment, said Stuart Bensusan, from EssentialTravel.co.uk.

The expert stated: "We are advising those who have purchased travel insurance to check the terms and conditions of their policy in order to understand properly what they are and aren't covered for."

He added that a total of 22 stoppage days had been planned from April 20th.

Furthermore, Ryanair has urged the European Commission to intervene with the prospect of potential strike action during peak travel time.

Recently, financial research firm Defaqto advised holidaymakers to check their travel insurance covers personal possessions as its research found 13 per cent of policies did not.
