Motorists who plan on taking their car abroad have been warned to check their car insurance policy to see what protection they have while away.As holidaymakers flee the UK and its wet, so-called summer weather, drivers have been warned that their comprehensive motor insurance may cover only three days and may require extra payments to secure cover. With 9.5 days identified as the perfect holiday length, allowing Brits to relax but cutting their time away just as they start to get homesick, three days of cover would not even cover one third of the break.Car insurance companies are obliged to offer third party cover in Europe to their policy holders but that will not help motorists whose cars need repair while abroad. As part of the driving holiday plans motorists should make sure the car is in top working condition, checking tyres, brakes, oil and other necessities as well as looking through their motor insurance policy.
