Carrying around excess weight in a car boot can end up costing people more money, a motoring expert said this week. The more items a car carries, the more work it has to do - so clearing out the boot could help your car to burn less fuel as it uses less power, explained Tim Anderson. Mr Anderson is the smarter driving expert from the Energy Saving Trust and was speaking on behalf of the ACT ON CO2 campaign. He added that not only could fuel costs decrease, but a lighter boot is likely to lower your car's carbon footprint. "By carrying around excess stuff in the back of the car ... it uses more fuel," Mr Anderson said. "It also increases the amount of carbon dioxide - CO2 - that your car emits." Some motor insurance policies are designed specifically for greener cars and aim to provide lower premiums for drivers of low-emission vehicles. Car Insurance - Get Swiftcovered today!
