Car insurance: Driving uninsured 'will not be an option'
Thursday, 11 September 2008
New measures will see the government step up its campaign to crackdown on uninsured motorists, according to the British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba).
The group claims information on databases containing details of registered vehicle owners and a list of car insurance policies will be compared in an attempt to uncover those people breaking the law.
Graeme Trudgill from Biba said further details on the government's proposals would be released in the next couple of months.
He stated he was confident the measures would be effective.
"Basically, you're not going to get away with driving uninsured anymore," he concluded.
Statistics released recently by the Motor Insurance Bureau have revealed there are currently around two million uninsured vehicles on UK roads.
The problem was found to be most prevalent in the Barkerend area of Bradford in West Yorkshire where there were more uninsured drivers per head than anywhere else in the country.
