Car insurance: 'Fight the credit crunch by downsizing'

Thursday, 09 October 2008

More than half of all drivers in the UK are thinking about trading in their existing vehicle for a smaller model in an attempt to cut costs such as the amount spent on car insurance, Avis has claimed.

A study by the rental group found 58 per cent of those questioned were seriously considering downsizing, with motorists in cities particularly open to the idea.

The organisation stated an average family in Britain could save up to £7,792 a year by swapping their current vehicle for a smaller model and then using a rental car when they were in need of something larger.

It also pointed out that downscaling was the socially responsible thing to do as it would generally result in people lowering their carbon footprint.

In other Avis news, the rental group reminded motorists planning a trip to the continent that a recent change in the law means that all vehicles in France need to carry a warning triangle.
