Travel insurance: New cross-channel ferry will 'compete with airlines'

Sunday, 26 April 2009

A forthcoming fast ferry set to transport passengers and freight across the English Channel will be competitively priced and potentially rival airlines, travel insurance customers may find it useful to know.

Nick Stevens is the spokesperson for LD Lines, which will be operating four routes across the water. He said not only will the transport system provide consumers with convenience, but it will allow them to check in quickly and benefit from having their own car once on the continent.

"Low-cost airlines aren't low cost anymore if you add on the airport and other operator's taxes," he explained.

"Travelling by car, by ferry and now particularly by fast ferry, provide the traveller with so many unique advantages."

The routes set to be served by LD Lines are Portsmouth to Le Havre, Newhaven to Dieppe, Dover to Boulogne and Dover to Dieppe.

An extra direct service - between Rosslare Europort in Ireland and Le Havre - is also scheduled to commence soon.
