The recent wintry weather has convinced certain motor insurance customers to consider purchasing a 4x4, research shows.

As the snow and ice affected the UK, reviews of 4x4s became even more dominant across the top 10 car reviews from the review site What Car? last week.

From the top 10, the most popular review with car insurance customers was the Hyundai Santa Fe, which managed to remove long-term favourites the Volkswagen Golf and Polo from the top spots.

What Car? describes the Santa Fee as "a cracking family 4x4" and that opinion seems to be common, due to its rapid increase in popularity on the website.

As well as this, the Honda CR-V and Skoda Yeti also reached the What Car? top 10, while the Volkswagen Golf was the only vehicle which was not a 4x4 or crossover model to reach the top 10 entries.

Other vehicles included in the chart were Nissan's Qashqai and Peugeot's 3008.
