Car Insurance: Road 'spoils good safety record'
Monday, 14 January 2008
The dangerous nature of a road in Lytham St Annes has meant that an otherwise good safety record in Fylde has been tarnished, officials said.
Clifton Drive in the area remains an accident blackspot, road safety bosses have suggested, reports the Blackpool Gazette.
Travel and safety road manager at Blackpool council Carol Bracegirdle suggested that a lot has been done to cut down on the number of accidents seen in the area.
But Blackpool Police's Inspector David Old claimed that there have been a number of speeding instances on rural highways, something that needs to be changed.
He told the publication: "There are problems on rural roads because people are speeding. It's such a big problem, especially at this time of year when the roads are wet and icy. Cars can end up in ditches and going into hedges."
Between April and December in 2007, serious casualty figures in Blackpool dipped by 8.6 per cent compared with the same time period in 2006.
Drivers involved in accidents could see that their car insurance premiums are negatively impacted upon.
Lytham St Annes is located along the coast from Blackpool and is a gateway into the Ribble Estuary, according to AboutBritain.com.
