Car insurance: Dark mornings 'can be dangerous'
Friday, 03 April 2009
Vehicle owners keen to avoid a car insurance claim have been urged to take extra care when driving to work in the morning for the next few weeks, it has been suggested.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) pointed out now the clocks have gone forward many people will be making their daily commute to the office before the sun comes up.
It stated this could cause some problems as drivers will have become accustomed to lighter mornings.
The group said people need to be aware that roads can be more difficult to read in the dark, with other vehicles and signs being harder to make out.
Neil Greig, director of policy and research at IAM, stated: "For the first few weeks of the clock change, motorists will need to get used to driving in darker conditions and take extra care."
Following this advice could help drivers protect the no-claims bonus on their car insurance.
